QCEA
was involved in the European Multi-Stakeholder Forum on CSR that
was set up by the European Commission (2001-2003) to attempt to answer
some of the questions surrounding Corporate Social Responsibility
and make recommendations to the Commission for future action. The
Forum is made up of half business representatives, a quarter trade
unionists and a quarter NGOs (including QCEA), as well as observers
from the Commission and other relevant intergovernmental organisations.
The
Forum had the dual aims of: • Improving
knowledge about the relationship between CSR and sustainable development
by facilitating the exchange of experience and good practices and
bringing together existing CSR instruments and initiatives, with a
special emphasis on SME specific aspects; •Exploring the appropriateness of establishing common guiding principles for CSR practices and instruments, taking into account existing EU initiatives and legislation and internationally agreed instruments.
The
European Multi-Stakeholders Forum came about as a result of two
